What is a Tincture?
A tincture is a clear liquid preparation created by extracting or dissolving drug substances with a specific concentration of ethanol. These can be administered orally or externally. Common examples include belladonna, orange peel, and iodine tinctures. They are characterized by ease of preparation and preservation.

Three Primary Working Methods

1. Dissolution or Dilution Method:
Powdered herbal products are dissolved or diluted in ethanol, allowed to stand, and filtered.

Extraction tank (single layer or double jacket for faster heating).
Duplex filter or centrifuge for particle removal.
Transfer pump and storage tank.

2. Impregnation Method:
Crushed materials are soaked in a covered container for 3-5 days. The leachate is then combined and filtered.

3. Percolation (Diacolation) Method:
Solvent is percolated through the material until the specified volume is reached.
